Members and guests of Victoria Lodge No 4629 assembled at Widnes Masonic Hall to attend the initiation of Dave Hansen which was also witnessed by grand officers Tony Tallon and David Redhead.
The lodge was opened by WM George Shields and when the usual business was completed Dave was admitted into the lodge room, guided on his journey into Freemasonry by the junior deacon, his good friend and proposer Andy Pope.
The evening was also particularly special when one of the first people Dave saw in the Lodge, sat to the right of the WM, was another friend and ex-colleague John Leisk. John was delighted to visit the lodge, to help welcome Dave into Freemasonry and was kind enough to comment in lodge on the quality of the ceremony.
It really was a great evening with the WM George performing a superb initiation ceremony ably assisted by his junior warden John Baldwin, who gave a perfect explanation of the working tools of the degree and senior warden Frank Tuzio, who’s delivery of the charge after initiation was exemplary.
A special mention is worthy of the inner guard George Saba, in performing his work so soon after his first working appointment, made at the preceding installation meeting in October. The same is true of Andy Pope, which makes the manner in which he guided Dave through the ceremony all the more impressive. Mind you, Andy did have ‘a little help from a friend’, when Assistant Provincial Grand Master Kevin Poynton acted as candidate at the official practice on the preceding Tuesday!
At the festive board Andy gave the toast to Dave who responded thanking the brethren for admitting him into Freemasonry in general and Victoria Lodge in particular. Dave and his wife Pat, have already been to quite a few lodge socials, so he was delighted to now be a member. He thanked Andy for proposing him, (the fact that he managed later to pull Andy’s ticket out for the raffle caused great hilarity, but Andy then donated it back for a future occasion).
The lodge was honoured by a number of visitors from Goodwill Lodge No 3896, whose Master John Horn was pleased to respond to the toast to the visitors in which he was very complementary about the quality of the ceremony. The WM was then pleased to hand on the Travelling Gavel to John and his brethren, which Victoria Lodge had acquired at the centenary meeting of Hale Lodge of Fellowship No 3799 last month.
