Derek has had health issues since May 2015 and his body has taken a battering with the after treatment he has undertaken, which will continue until early 2017. He advised the PrGM about his decision to retire after his recent surgery and hopes the decision will help him to make a full recovery.

Derek said that he has thoroughly enjoyed the three and a half years he has served the group as chairman and also the previous 7 years as group secretary and vice chairman. He has made many friends during this time and is grateful for the support everyone has afforded him and is looking forward to those friendships continuing for many years. Derek wishes to place on record his express appreciation to his group executive and group officers for their work during his tenure as chairman.

Expressing his delight in the appointment of his successor Neil Pedder, Derek is sure he will receive the same support from the members as he has enjoyed. He was also delighted when the PrGM appointed Norman Speed as interim vice chairman until the meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge in May 2017. John Gibbon remains as secretary until the next meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge. Derek said he will not be disappearing from the scene but will be giving the group and the executive his full support in their endeavours.
